Horn

Got this game yesterday. decent graphics(environments seemed a bit dull at times on my Tegra2 tablet) and interesting story so far.

Get it on the play store(Rs377.18) at this link.

The controls are a bit simplistic, i find them a bit cumbersome at times.. especially since i'm used to fps control schemes like in Shadowgun or the hybrid ones in games like Tintin.

For other acer iconia(or simillar tablet) users who have been having trouble with the game - You need to have atleast 6gb free(after installing) for the system to be able to run it smoothly. so don't think that since the game is 2gb, you'll just free up that much space and install it.. that won't work i'm afraid.

I've also recently(month back) done a factory reset.. and am running Apex launcher which is why the tablet is running so smoothly.

Will post a video soon that will show you what the graphics look like as well as how smooth the gameplay can be.. if you free up all that extra space.

Youtube Monetisation

I started posting videos to youtube a few years back.. but only enabled the "monetisation"(heres the FAQ on this) option around a year back.. to see if it generates any cash. Last week i got my first cheque from Google!

That got my hopes up.. and so when one of my favorite sites(sketchfab.com) added a new feature(read here).. i did a video walkthrough on how to use it.

heres the video:

..and then this happens today.

Google's tricks to avoid paying video publishers

so.. basically as long as they're not paying you.. they don't care what you upload.. but the moment you start getting hits.. and they have to part with money.. they find a vague loophole.

which in this case is beyond me as i clearly mention that its my model.. and the features are on Sketchfab's site. Infact sketchfab(bless their souls) even use this video on their own blog post about these features!

Anyway am not that bothered about it(as long as the video is viewable thats fine with me),

so this blog post is the last i will say about it. Just wanted other youtubers to know about it.

Sketchfab's Material Editor

Sketchfab.com just added a material editor to their webgl models.. this video shows you how to enable it on older uploads. newer uploads will have it enabled by default.

These are the settings you can manipulate:

(note: your model obviously needs to be UV Unwrapped for the textures to work)

Diffuse Color - You can use the original diffuse texture if you uploaded one with your model, or use the color picker to re-color it.

heres my old one

and the new

Lightmap - for pre-baked lighting on your models.

Specular Color - This controls the intensity of the texture/color meant to reflect in light.

Shininess - This slot controls the sharpness of the specular map, and higher settings make the material glossier.

Normal Map- works best with an actual normal map.

Opacity - Controls any transparancy in your materials, or model selected.

Emission - This controls any part of your model you would like to have a glow or self-illumination.

Environment Reflection - This setting is used only if you enabled a cubemap as environment..and is multiplied by the specular color.

Weird issue with Dell XPS

Been having this issue for a few weeks now. All my games were crashing.. in some cases the entire computer would freeze and would have to be force-restarted!

At first i figured it was to do with the Windows8 upgrade.. so i did a clean install. This fixed the previous issues i had with windows8(live tiles and store were not working) but not my gaming issue.

Finally contacted two dell people on twitter and they talked me through installing the latest drivers and running diagnostics. The latter gave no real errors(except for a possible hdd error).

And so i turned to google.

On googling i found that this was a common issue(read more here) with the model of nvidia and motherboard that i had! Basically all the games run fine when your on battery.. but moments after you plug in the AC power source, they crash. The only solution that seems to work is a motherboard replacement. since i'm still under warranty, i'm going to have to do that.. lets see how it goes.

For your benefit heres the Nvidia chip to avoid if your buying the Dell XPS L502X- NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M

there are other methods people have tried, like down-clocking the nvidia card using msi afterburner. More info on that here.

I also tried gaming with the intel graphics(the laptop has two graphics chips) set as default.. verdict: intel graphics is useless.
