The Goat

Started using an iPad Pro and pencil a few weeks back. Settled on Nomadsculpt and Procreate as my primary art apps for now. I just figured out Nomad’s lighting setup so decided it was time to start recording my current sculpting process.

Mechanical Assassin

A daily doodle, now with more focus on pose and dynamism. Now that I’ve figured out some bugs in my workflow, am focusing on more finished pieces.

Stayed away from the sculpting tools this time used mainly the transform and trim tool in nomadsculpt.

Tool upgrade - Ipad pro and Pencil

Got an ipad pro 13" and pencil last month, after years of postponed attempts. My finances had always been a bit iffy, but these last few years have been more stable, and so 2 years ago i got one for my wife, and it really helped with her workflow(comic book artist) she kept telling that i should get one too.

Am primarily a 3D artist, so was reluctant. But in the last few years, seeing what artists are able to do with Nomadsculpt.. and the announcement of zbrush for the ipad, I started considering myself.

So anyway, it was finally time to go get this.

Used some generic paint markers to draw on the cover. I promptly fell ill with Dengue and was hospitalized for a while. Having this device with me helped keep me sane.

3d Modelling and sculpting on Ipad

Dug deeper into Nomad Sculpt and have figured out an entirely iPad based 3d workflow. That involves modelling, sculpting, decimating, ups and materials and texture painting.

Here are the results.. may do a tutorial or Timelapse soon.

This is a character I made entirely on the iPad using Nomad sculpt. Was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to setup materials. It was fun to figure out how to do the tubes and visor.

Here’s the same character imported into Procreate and painted in an npr style.

The transparency was tricky, had to do that in Sketchfab.

I then tried something I’d rather not call hard surface.. but close to it

Incidentally this app started as a web based app called sculpt gl, and I had even done a tutorial with it a few years ago! Great to see it come this far!

Here’s that tutorial if anyone’s interested:

3d work on ipad

Finally got an iPad with pencil, and started figuring out a 3d workflow.

First started with painting some of my old models and sculpts from blender like this fish

Used procreate to paint on the model. It’s so smooth and responsive, it’s an absolute miracle of tech.

Then started exploring the apps that are meant for creating the 3d model or sculpt itself.

Started with Feather and Nomad sculpt. Will share updates on both soon.
