So the 3d sketch was done with an app called Feather3d, on the iPad. And here’s a recording the whole process. Recorded a full workflow that I typically follow.

Advanced painting in Nomad Sculpt

 
Have been repainting a lot of my old 3d doodles in Nomad Sculpt.
These are some of the ones I have done in the last few days

Today I figured out the workflow to export the models with materials and textures compatible in other programs or platforms like Blender or Sketchfab, heres an example (free download) -

Its sort of a PBR realism workflow that am getting into after a lot of NPR (which I will still continue).
To begin with Nomad Sculpt's material system is pretty robust, so a lot can be achieved with that if you are willing to put in the time. Previously I would work on the sculpt in Nomad, then move to Procreate for the painting and then get those textures back in Nomad.. This time I decided to figure out the complete workflow within Nomad.

After a lot of searching I found Razum's youtube channel and after a lot of deliberation, I've chosen to invest in a materials pack by Ilya Tulyakov (aka Razum).

Backlight of Keyboard not working on Ubuntu?

So one recurring issue I have been having with my Ubuntu setup has been that my generic keyboard's LED backlight doesn't turn on on its own. If your having the same issue, here's my current fix:

In Terminal type:

xset led 3

Note: this doesn't appear to be permanent fix.. I need to do this every time I reboot.  

Update: on 8Jul 2026

It was relatively simple to add this script to a list that runs on startup using the built-in manager.

Follow these steps:

1. Press the Super key (Windows key) on your keyboard.
2. Search for and open Startup Applications. 
3. Click the Add button on the right.
4. Fill out the fields:
   • Name: Give your startup item a custom title.
   • Command: Paste the exact terminal command you want to run.
   • Comment: (Optional) Add a brief description.
5. Click Add to save it.

Painted the old 3D Prints

Had these models printed years back.. theyve just been sitting and gathering dust.. so decided to "update" them.

used standard acrylic paints, and a paintbrush.

Use an Ipad as a drawing tablet on Ubuntu

 

A few days back I decided to quit Windows. I nuked the windows c: drive during installation because I didnt even want to dual boot. And so began the journey to get my usual stuff to work on Ubuntu. 

So on windows I had been using Easy Canvas but that was not available on Linux. A quick search turned up Weylus and heres the installation instructions if your looking for a similar solution.

Step 1
Lets use "wget" in the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) to download the latest version of the program.

    wget https://github.com/H-M-H/Weylus/releases/download/v0.11.2/Weylus_0.11.2_amd64.deb

Once this finishes, proceed with

Step 2
To install it use the following

     sudo apt install ./Weylus_0.11.2_amd64.deb

Step 3
Run the program from apps 

Step 4
Set a passcode and click "Start"

Step 5
use your ipad camera to get the link from the QR code.
This will open a tab in your default browser where you can now remotely view and work on this computer. The Apple Pencil's pressure sensitivity just worked for me. 

The lines are a bit jittery.. so I will keep looking for other software or maybe run Easy Canvas with Wine and give that a shot. Will post updates here.

Spider Mech

 Started my daily doodle live stream on youtube again. This is one of the things from there. A mech sort of inspired by a spider(Yes I know spiders have 8 legs). 

I made it over 3 streaming sessions,
- started with sculpting it in Nomad Sculpt.
- refining and adding details

- painting in npr style using Procreate



Then uploaded it to Sketchfab.

Witch Hat Atelier - Fanart

 Just caught up with the latest chapters of the manga Witch Hat Atelier that had been recommended to me by many, including my students. The story is gut wrenchingly good and I can't wait to see what happens next. While I wait, I've been working on some fanart.. character design has always been my weak point, so how better to work on some skills that by basing it off some really original and outstanding characters.
Heres Sasaran. I somehow managed to get the posture and most other details just right.

Riders

 

Minor update.. working on composing this better.

Rider

 

A rider on their mount. A doodle at work today.

Worked on the model and sculpt in Nomad Sculpt. Started with a rough humanoid rider on horse.. 

Then started manipulating proportions and playing with the form of both creatures, till I got to something I was happy with.

Generated UVs and moved to Procreate

Finally took it to Sketchfab since I really like playing with material and lighting over there.
