A tree stump we pass on our dog walk route. Its of a tree that had been eaten up by termites. Was chopped down before it damaged powerlines.. but it actually broke in this uneven way, since it was hollowed out by the bugs.

3d scan - Stump

Scull Scan
Was out with the dogs, when they discovered this canine skull.. The lighting was just right for 3d scanning (overcast, no strong shadows) so I took out my phone and got clicking.
32 photos later, we headed home and I put them through a free tool called Meshroom and then took the result to Blender for some minimal cleanup and mesh simplification using the Decimate modifier.

3d models from displacement map

About 5hrs ago Jaume Sanchez Elias @thespite showed me his project that does the model creation process in the browser itself! give it a try here - http://www.clicktorelease.com/code/depth-player/
It works in your phone browser itself, and is quite fast!

basically its really low-fi 3d scanning..
heres a tutorial on how to do this yourself..
(a slower method using 3d tools.. if your the hands on kind of person)
